Abstract

This article demonstrates the effective growth modulation using Maxillary intrusion splint with headgear in treatment of vertical maxillary excess and Bidental proclination as opposed to contemporary skeletal anchorage modalities such as Temporary Anchorage Devices, etc. This case report is about a 14 year old female patient who reported with a chief complaint of forwardly placed upper front teeth with gummy smile. On examinationthe patient had a convex profile with incompetent lips and excessive gingival display. Treatment included Maxillary Intrusion Splint (MIS) along with headgear to bring about restriction of maxillary growth in vertical and sagittal direction. This was followed by extraction of all first premolars and fixed mechanotherapy in order to correct the proclination. Ideal overjet, overbite and intercuspations were achieved and maintained even one year after debonding.
