Abstract

Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is the sequential procedure for reshaping the face to appear more feminine. It is usually take on due to transsexual individuals who want transformation from men to women or for the females want to wish for more advanced feminize facial features. Multidisciplinary treatment planning team is the basic necessity for any patient who is seeking for FFS. Orthodontists possess the chief characteristic within the multidisciplinary team because patients may initially appear to the orthodontist for the concern of their jaw appearance. For that reason, orthodontists should have the detailed knowledge about FFS procedures, to authorize the best communication with the patient, thorough the assessment of the patient and further referral where there is the requirement. Present article reviews the commonly used FFS procedures, their implications, benefits as well as the risk factors of every procedure and highlights the orthodontist’s role.
