Abstract: Objectives:Orthodontic root resorption is a significant concern during orthodontic treatment, and can range from mild (0.4-1.5mm) to severe root resorption(>4mm). Recent studies have suggested that Dentin Sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) may also be involved in the development and progression of orthodontic root resorption. The aim of the present systematic review is to examine the current available evidence pertaining to Quantification of DSPP in patients with external root resorption. Materials and Methods :A comprehensive literature search was conducted for relevant articles using electronic databases along with hand search. Inclusion criteria encompassed primary research studies that examined the relationship between DSPP expression and orthodontic root resorption in human subjects. Data extraction and quality assessment were conducted using established protocols. A qualitative synthesis of the findings was performed due to variations in study designs and methodologies. Results:The initial search yielded a total of 1192 records. After the screening process, 33 articles were selected for full-text review. Following the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 12 studies were included in this systematic review. The studies exhibited variations in study design, sample size, measurement methods, and outcome measures. While some studies suggested a positive correlation between DSPP expression and root resorption, others reported conflicting or inconclusive results. Conclusions:This systematic review highlights the existing variability in the literature regarding the correlation between Dentin Sialophosphoprotein expression and orthodontic root resorption. Methodological differences and limitations across the studies contribute to the inconsistency in findings. Further research with standardized methodologies and larger sample sizes is warranted to elucidate the role of DSPP as a predictive biomarker for orthodontic root resorption.
